odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 20: In a tragic incident on Monday, a 14-year-old boy was killed, and his mother sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a wild elephant in Mahatpalli village, located in Khurda district, Odisha. The deceased boy, identified as Satya Martha, was a young resident of the area, while his mother, Sulochana Martha, is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.

The attack occurred early in the morning when Sulochana stepped outside her home to attend to nature’s call. As she encountered the elephant, she raised an alarm, prompting Satya to rush to her aid. Unfortunately, the wild elephant charged at them, trampling Satya and causing severe injuries.

Local residents quickly responded to the distress call, rescuing both mother and son and transporting them to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khurda. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Satya was declared dead upon arrival, while Sulochana continues to receive treatment for her injuries.

In response to this incident, a team of forest officials visited the site and began the process of offering compensation to the affected family in accordance with standard protocols. This tragic event highlights the ongoing conflict between wildlife and local communities, raising concerns about safety in rural areas.
