odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Feb 13: The district administration has sealed a private nursing home in the Mangalabag area of Cuttack city for allegedly operating without valid fire safety clearance and necessary regulatory approvals.
The facility, located in Malla Sahi, had reportedly been functioning for the past 45 years without fulfilling fire safety norms under the Clinical Establishments (Regulation and Registration) Act.
Authorities had earlier issued multiple notices to the health facility, urging compliance. However, repeated failures to produce valid fire safety and clinical establishment certificates led to an inspection on Wednesday evening. Officials found the premises lacking adequate fire safety measures, following which the administration ordered its immediate closure.
“The nursing home failed to obtain the required fire safety licenses despite being served multiple notices since 2015,” Additional District Collector Dibyalochan Mahantam told reporters.
However, the hospital owner refuted the allegations, claiming that necessary electrical rewiring and fire safety arrangements had been installed. He insisted that the facility was merely a consultancy center and had not conducted any surgical or medical procedures in recent years. “Despite this, officials are not allowing me to enter my own building,” he alleged.
