odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 21: In a decisive move to address the underperformance of government employees, Cuttack District Collector Dattatreya Bhausaheb Shinde has ordered the immediate withholding of salaries for 12 employees responsible for executing duties under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
This decision comes in light of Cuttack’s poor performance, as the district ranks 29th out of 30 districts in Odisha regarding MGNREGA target achievements.
To improve the district’s standing, the Collector directed Block Development Officers (BDOs) to implement this measure. The 12 employees, who serve as accountants and Data Entry Operators, were tasked with the additional responsibility of providing employment opportunities to at least 100 individuals in each gram panchayat (GP). However, they failed to meet these targets, prompting Shinde to take action.
The decision to withhold their salaries was communicated via letters sent to the BDOs, emphasizing the need for immediate compliance with the order. This step underscores the Collector’s commitment to improving accountability and ensuring that employees fulfill their responsibilities effectively, ultimately aiming to enhance MGNREGA’s impact in the region and provide better support to the local population.
