Odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 27: Police on Friday arrested four women for allegedly attacking a police officer in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district during an anti-sand mining operation on December 18. The accused, residents of Dahisahi and Gohira under Kaptipada police limits, were involved in the assault. However, two main accused remain at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
The incident occurred when a police team, led by Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Prakash Rath, raided an illegal sand mining site in Dahisahi. As Rath directed his team to seize the sand stockpiled in the area, a group, including the arrested women, launched a violent attack on the officers. They also vandalized the police vehicle.
Rath sustained injuries to his neck and back and was rushed to the Kaptipada Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have intensified their search for the remaining suspects. The incident highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in curbing illegal activities, prompting police to enhance vigilance in the region.
