Odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 7: Odisha-cadre IPS officer Ashish Kumar Singh has been appointed as the Inspector General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), effective Friday. Singh, a member of the 2004 batch, will serve in this position for five years from the date he assumes charge or until further notice, according to a letter from the Union Home Ministry addressed to the Chief Secretary of Odisha.

The letter requests the immediate release of Ashish Kumar Singh, IPS (OD: 2004), to enable him to commence his new assignment at the Centre.

Earlier this year, Singh faced controversy over allegations of improper interference in the electoral process in Odisha. In April, the Election Commission transferred him from the position of IG (Central Range) to a non-election-related post, subsequently assigning him as IG (Chief Minister’s security).

In June, the Commission recommended action against Singh for allegedly misrepresenting his health status. This followed complaints from the BJP, which claimed he was favoring the BJD during the elections while on sick leave from May 4 to June 2. Singh returned to duty on July 3 but was reassigned from the IG of Police (Chief Minister’s security) to the OSD in the Home Department on July 11.
