Odisha News: Bhubaneswar, (Jatindra Send), Oct 19: In a shocking incident in Portipada village, located in the Sinapali area of Nuapada district, a man was critically injured after being set on fire by villagers who accused him of practicing sorcery. The victim, identified as Kham Singh Majhi, sustained severe burns on his face, limbs, and other parts of his body.
According to preliminary reports, a group of villagers tied Majhi with ropes and ignited him after a meeting where they threatened him with dire consequences for the alleged sorcery. Despite Majhi’s denial of the accusations, tensions escalated, leading to the brutal attack.
In a desperate attempt to escape, Majhi managed to free himself and ran around the village before jumping into a pond to douse the flames. His family members later rescued him and took him to the hospital for treatment.
Majhi’s son has vehemently refuted the villagers’ claims, stating that the attack was unwarranted. Police have registered a case at the Sinapali police station and are conducting a preliminary investigation into the incident.
