odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 30: The police have registered a case against jatra artiste Bhagyashree Sahoo, popularly known as ‘Sahoo Bhauja,’ for allegedly performing an obscene dance at a recent program in the Kotameta area of Malkangiri district, Odisha. The case was filed under Section 296 of the BNS, which addresses the presentation of obscene acts and songs during public performances.

In addition to charging Sahoo, law enforcement officials have also taken action against the organizers of the jatra show, which attracted public attention due to the controversial performance.

Furthermore, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against Debabrata Mallik, the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Mathili Police Station, who was reportedly present at the event. Sources indicate that he did not intervene or take steps to halt the objectionable acts performed by Sahoo, raising concerns about his oversight.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Malkangiri has directed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, underscoring the police department’s commitment to addressing public decency concerns.
