Odisha News: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 7: The Odisha government has announced detailed plans to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of legendary tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda on November 15. Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik shared that the day will be observed as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’ to honor the iconic tribal leader.
A wide range of events will be organized across the state to pay tribute to Birsa Munda, Naik said. As part of the celebrations, gram sabhas are planned to be held in 27 districts, including seven tribal-dominated regions. These gram sabhas will take place in 2408 panchayats across 234 blocks, with a total of 6667 meetings scheduled on that day.
Sarpanches will preside over the gram sabhas, while panchayat executive officers (PEOs) will serve as coordinators. Minister Naik emphasized that the discussions in these meetings will focus on the rights of tribal people, particularly addressing key issues such as the Forest Rights Act and the Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA).
