Odisha News: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 8: Amid widespread outrage over the alleged gang-rape of a college student in Cuttack, Odisha, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan assured that the government would impose the strictest punishment for crimes against women. Speaking to the media on Friday, Harichandan emphasized that the BJP government has a policy of zero tolerance toward such crimes and is working to make Odisha “a crime-free state for women” by 2036.
He further stated that the government has made it clear that there will be no leniency when it comes to domestic violence, torture, rape, or gang rape. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has already promised the harshest penalties for those involved in the Cuttack gang-rape case. The Minister also mentioned that amendments to existing laws will be considered to improve the prosecution and conviction rates in crimes against women.
The case involves a 19-year-old girl from Cuttack, who was allegedly gang-raped by her boyfriend and his friends after being blackmailed with an obscene video. Six individuals, including a minor, have been arrested in connection with the crime, and their mobile phones have been seized for forensic examination.
