odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 20: In response to the increasing vehicular traffic in the state, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced plans to create 2,000 new traffic police posts. This decision was made during a late-night review meeting focused on the state’s law and order situation, where the Chief Minister emphasized the need to reduce road accidents, tackle cyber crimes, and combat ganja cultivation.
Acknowledging that the current strength of 2,198 traffic police personnel is insufficient, Majhi assured that the home department and police will ensure transparent and fair recruitment procedures for these new positions.
Additionally, the Chief Minister directed the police to enhance urban surveillance, particularly during nighttime. He instructed the deployment of more CCTV cameras at key locations in Bhubaneswar and other major cities to improve safety.
In light of recent incidents, including the daylight murder of a sanitary supervisor and the deaths of two retired police personnel due to reckless driving, Majhi urged the Twin City police commissioner to increase night patrolling and strengthen law enforcement.
The Chief Minister also announced the establishment of an advanced cyber forensic laboratory to address growing cybersecurity challenges. Furthermore, 20 new cyber police stations will be opened across the state, equipped with modern technology and skilled personnel to effectively handle digital offenses. In 2024, Odisha recorded a total of 2,633 cybercrime cases.
