odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Feb 17: In a significant move to support farmers, the Odisha government has announced plans to establish cold storage facilities in every block of the state. The initiative aims to provide farmers with better storage options and reduce post-harvest losses, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra informed on Monday.

Addressing the media, Patra stated that the government is actively working to improve agricultural infrastructure, especially in areas that lack proper marketplaces or mandis.

“In regions where mandis do not exist, new ones will be set up so that farmers can easily sell their produce. Additionally, to prevent wastage and ensure long-term storage, we are establishing cold storage facilities across all blocks. The government is committed to implementing this plan as soon as possible,” he said.

The minister also reassured that efforts are being made to ensure fair pricing for farmers’ produce, thereby protecting them from financial distress.

Furthermore, Patra highlighted the state’s focus on increasing potato production. “The government is taking proactive measures to boost potato cultivation, and its impact will be evident in the next one to two years,” he added.
