Odisha to experience intense rainfall and thunderstorms

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 28:  Heavy rainfall is expected to impact several regions of Odisha over the next four days as a new low-pressure area is forecasted to form over the east-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The state is anticipated to experience an active wet spell until August 31. Following its formation, the low-pressure system is expected to move west-northwestward, approaching the coasts of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh within the next two days.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) at isolated locations in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Balasore districts over the next 24 hours. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in coastal Odisha and the previously mentioned districts.

For August 29, an orange warning has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) at isolated locations in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada. A yellow warning indicates potential heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kendrapara, Nuapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

On August 30, an orange warning predicts isolated heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20 cm) with possible extremely heavy rainfall (>20 cm) in Malkangiri and Koraput. Heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20 cm) is expected in Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam. A yellow warning is in effect for heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) at isolated locations in Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
