Odisha Vigilance arrests Chief Engineer N.V. Harihara Rao for disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 21: Odisha Vigilance arrested N.V. Harihara Rao, Chief Construction Engineer of the Rural Works Circle in Balasore, on Saturday for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known income sources. The arrest followed searches conducted on Rao’s properties on Friday, revealing substantial assets he could not satisfactorily explain.

Among the seized assets were Rs 46.45 lakh in cash discovered at his brother-in-law’s house in Berhampur, along with two buildings, a 3-BHK flat, two suspected benami flats in Bhubaneswar and Berhampur, five high-value homestead plots, and deposits and investments totaling Rs 3.42 crore, as well as 510 grams of gold.

The operation involved extensive coordination, with teams comprising 11 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), 7 inspectors, 11 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs), and other support staff executing search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. Searches were conducted at 11 locations across Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Balasore, Keonjhar, and Phulbani. The cash was found in the home of his brother-in-law, a government doctor stationed at Berhampur Jail.
