Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 29: G Udayagiri in Odisha’s Kandhamal district registered the season’s lowest temperature of 6.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday, signaling the onset of winter in the region. Other areas also experienced significant drops in temperature, with Phulbani recording 8.5 degrees Celsius and Daringbadi, often referred to as the “Kashmir of Odisha,” experiencing a chilly 10 degrees Celsius.
The biting cold, coupled with a foggy atmosphere, has led to temperatures consistently falling below 10 degrees Celsius since November 17. This unexpected drop has triggered a surge in demand for winter clothing among local residents.
According to forecasts from the Bhubaneswar regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there may be a slight rise in temperatures over the next few days due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal.
The mercury is expected to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius. Additionally, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in several parts of Odisha, with Cuttack and Bhubaneswar likely to experience a partly cloudy sky and possible rain or thundershowers. Fog is also expected in districts such as Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi during the night and early morning hours for the next two days.
