OMFED: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 16: The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED) is set to diversify its product range with the upcoming launch of chocolate and packaged drinking water. This expansion is part of OMFED’s broader strategy, which includes setting up parlours in panchayats and constructing three additional dairy plants in Sambalpur, Berhampur, and Balasore.
Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallick made this announcement following a review meeting on Friday.
Mallick emphasized that the focus will remain on ensuring the quality of OMFED products, improving milk procurement from farmers, and upgrading existing dairy plants by installing CCTVs for better monitoring. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the new plants is currently being prepared.
In a move to benefit dairy farmers, OMFED will soon implement a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring that payments for milk supplied at panchayat-level collection centres are directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts.
Regarding a request from the Shree Jagannath Temple Trust for OMFED ghee, Mallick confirmed that the temple, which requires approximately 4 tonnes of ghee per day, will receive the product at a subsidized rate. OMFED’s production capacity is around 8 tonnes of ghee per day, making it possible to meet the temple’s daily and other requirements across the state.
