One dead, two critically injured in ambulance-truck collision on NH-16 in Jajpur

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 8: A tragic accident on National Highway No. 16 in Dharmasala area of Jajpur district, Odisha, resulted in one death and two critical injuries on Sunday morning. Preliminary reports indicate that the accident occurred near Rathia, within the jurisdiction of Dharmasala police station.

The 108 ambulance was en route to Keonjhar from Cuttack after dropping off a patient at a hospital. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a truck parked along the roadside from behind.

Ambulance attendant Hemanta Acharya was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver, Gobardhan Jena, and pharmacist, Girija Sethi, sustained severe injuries. Local residents alerted the fire services and police, who arrived to rescue the injured and transport them to a nearby hospital. Acharya was declared dead upon arrival, and Jena and Sethi were later transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment.
