PM Modi: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Odisha on November 15 to inaugurate the year-long Janjati Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day) in Rourkela, marking the 150th birth anniversary of legendary tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda. This was announced by Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik on Saturday.
The year-long programme will be launched on November 15, with special gram sabhas and training camps planned in tribal-dominated villages across the country. However, Naik clarified that they have yet to receive confirmation from the Prime Minister’s Office regarding the visit.
Additionally, Naik announced that the Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act, 1996, would be implemented in Odisha. Plans are underway to organize 7,667 gram sabhas across 2,408 panchayats in 234 blocks across 27 districts, aimed at raising awareness about the PESA Act. He added that the legislation will be presented in the upcoming winter session of the Odisha Assembly.
The gram sabha meetings will be led by the sarpanchs and coordinated by Panchayat Extension Officers (PEOs).
