Police encounter: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Feb 17: A notorious criminal allegedly involved in a series of apartment robberies was injured in an encounter with the police in the Balianta area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar in the early hours of Monday.
The accused, identified as Arjun Anare, sustained a bullet injury during the exchange of fire and has been hospitalized for treatment.
According to police sources, Arjun and his gang were planning a burglary at an apartment complex when they were spotted by Balianta police during a routine night patrol. Upon noticing the police, the gang attempted to flee, but a high-speed chase ensued. In a desperate bid to escape, Arjun opened fire on the police. The officers retaliated, shooting him in the leg.
While Arjun was apprehended, four of his accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The injured criminal was initially rushed to Capital Hospital but was later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar as his condition worsened.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a massive manhunt to track down the absconding gang members. Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra revealed that the criminals are believed to be from Madhya Pradesh and were operating across different cities.
