police encounter: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), April 4: In a late-night operation on Thursday, two notorious criminals were injured in a police encounter in the Badagada area of Bhubaneswar. The duo, identified as Sonu Yadav and Manish Yadav—both hailing from Bihar—were wanted in multiple criminal cases, including chain snatching and armed robbery.

According to Commissionerate Police sources, the incident occurred when the two attempted a robbery and were fleeing the scene on a motorcycle near the Bankual area. Acting on a tip-off, a special police team intercepted them. The accused allegedly opened fire on the police in an attempt to escape, forcing the police to retaliate in self-defence. Both sustained bullet injuries during the exchange of fire.

Initially rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, the injured criminals were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Police revealed that Sonu and Manish are involved in at least 15 cases of robbery and chain snatching across various police stations in Bhubaneswar. An investigation is underway to unearth their criminal network and trace other associates operating in the city and beyond.
