Political News: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 18: Senior Congress leader Mohammad Moqium announced on Friday that the party is expected to appoint a new president for its Odisha unit by Diwali. This development follows Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal’s directive to senior leader Charan Das Mahant to prepare a comprehensive report on the leadership and organizational matters concerning the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).
In a letter shared on the social media platform X on Thursday, Mahant was urged to coordinate with fellow member Meenakshi Natarajan to expedite the process.
During a media interaction, Moqium mentioned that two senior All India Congress Committee (AICC) members are anticipated to visit the state for formal discussions. “I hope the new OPCC chief will be someone who can work effectively at the grassroots level and unite the party. Two central observers have been appointed for this purpose. The party high command will make a decision very soon, and we expect clarity by Diwali,” he stated.
Moqium also refuted claims of any delays in appointing the party chief. “No other party has initiated a similar process, while Congress has already laid out a roadmap. After the polls, the OPCC was dissolved, and we are on track to complete the entire process within three months,” he added.
