Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 17: The Odisha government is set to reinstate the provision of wheat to ration card holders alongside their usual rice quota.
On Saturday, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced that the state government has requested the Centre to allocate wheat for this purpose.
The state has specifically asked for wheat to be provided at a rate equivalent to 20 percent of the rice quota. This decision comes in response to public demand for wheat, Patra explained.
Under the previous administration, the supply of wheat was discontinued in favor of increasing rice distribution. Consequently, ration card holders were only receiving rice. The current move aims to address the needs of the people by reviving the earlier practice of supplying both rice and wheat.
