Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 10: During the Zero Hours of the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday, Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra called for a CBI investigation into three high-profile murders and the mysterious death of the prime accused in one of the cases. Mishra, a BJP legislator, insisted that his demand for a central agency probe will persist regardless of who is in power in the state.

Mishra’s call for a CBI investigation targets the murders of former minister Naba Kishore Das, woman teacher Mamita Meher, and Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati. He raised concerns about the investigations into these cases, alleging that the previous government exerted undue pressure on the police, influencing the investigation processes.

The MLA also questioned the circumstances surrounding the death of Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused in Mamita Meher’s murder case. Sahu was found hanging from a window in Kantabanji Sub-Jail, raising doubts about the suicide claim.

Mishra emphasized that public skepticism about the investigations warrants a CBI probe to uncover the truth. The murder of Mamita Meher in October 2021 sparked widespread protests, with former BJD minister Dibya Shankar Mishra allegedly linked to Sahu, who was the president of Sunshine English Medium School in Mahaling, Kalahandi. Sahu’s death occurred before his court appearance on December 20, 2022.

Previously, the BJP government had announced plans to reopen several high-profile murder cases in Odisha, including the killings of Health Minister Naba Kishore Das in 2023 and Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati in 2008.
