Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 6: The Commissionerate Police today placed Satyajit Managovind Samal, the conman accused of defrauding several women under the guise of marriage, on a two-day remand. Although the Capital Police had requested a 10-day remand, the court granted only two days for custody interrogation.

During searches at Samal’s residence in Chandrasekharpur, the police seized a diary containing names, addresses, contact numbers, and other details of numerous women.

Samal, a 34-year-old from Jajpur district, was allegedly involved in deceiving two women in Bhubaneswar and two more in Kolkata and Delhi. He also targeted 49 women on a matrimonial site, using various identities, primarily focusing on divorcees and separated women. Arrested on August 3 through Operation ‘Dulhe Raja’, Samal was apprehended in Bhubaneswar after being lured from Dubai by a female police officer posing as a prospective bride.

The investigation revealed that Samal defrauded a working professional of Rs 36 lakh (including Rs 27 lakh in cash and a Maruti Baleno worth Rs 8.15 lakh) and took Rs 8.60 lakh and a Royal Enfield Interceptor bike worth Rs 3.50 lakh from another woman in Bhubaneswar.

Further inquiries uncovered that he had married two other women from Kolkata and New Delhi, taking one car from each. He subsequently rented these cars to travel agencies, generating additional income. Marriage certificates from these women were also recovered.
