Similipal: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 29: The Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, reopened its gates to tourists on Tuesday following a six-day closure due to cyclone Dana. The reserve was first shut down from October 23 to 25 and then again from October 26 to 28 as heavy rains pounded the area, significantly affecting access and safety for visitors. During this closure, all prior bookings for cottage stays were canceled, preventing tourists from entering the reserve.
The Director’s Office of Similipal Tiger Reserve announced that the decision to reopen was made after carefully assessing the post-storm conditions to ensure visitor safety. It’s worth noting that STR had reopened just before the Durga Puja festival, which had attracted many tourists from Odisha and beyond eager to explore its natural beauty.
Similipal is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including Bengal tigers, elephants, leopards, and over 200 bird species, making it a prime destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers looking to immerse themselves in the great outdoors.
