Bhubaneswar, (Repoterspen), july 17: In a tragic incident in Talapada village under Simulia police jurisdiction, Balasore, a man allegedly strangled his mother to death on Tuesday night.
The deceased, Basanti Mohanty, was a resident of Talapada village in Kanchapada Panchayat. According to reports, the accused, Arun Mohanty, the eldest son of the deceased, committed the act while under the influence of alcohol following a verbal dispute over dinner.
Arun’s wife, Kavita Mohanty, recounted, “Arun, under the influence of alcohol, regularly subjected our family, including myself, our children, and his elderly mother, to physical abuse.”
She continued, “On Tuesday night around 8:30 pm, Arun returned home intoxicated and demanded dinner. When his mother informed him she hadn’t prepared fish curry due to financial constraints, he began physically assaulting her, ultimately strangling her.”
Upon learning of the incident, locals intervened and rushed the unconscious Basanti to the hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
The police apprehended Arun following a formal complaint filed by his wife at the Simulia police station.
