Strict Action Against Harassers of Women Ordered by Chief Minister

Bhubaneswar, (Reporters Pen): Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department and the Director General of Police to take strong action against those who harass women. Recently, the President of India has also expressed concern over the increasing violence against women.

The Chief Minister stated that the top priority of the state government is to ensure the safety of women and provide prompt justice to those who are victims of gender-based violence, in accordance with the Indian Penal Code, the Indian Civil Code, and the Indian Evidence Act. He emphasized the importance of following all legal procedures, from the registration of FIRs to swift investigations and the prosecution of offenders, to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice. He also mentioned the need for training arrangements for police officers where necessary.

The Chief Minister has instructed that a state-level police conference be organized soon to discuss the agenda related to women’s safety. The state government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against violence towards women. The Chief Minister also directed that exemplary action be taken against any police officers who neglect their duty in providing justice to women.
