Terror threat: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 30: Amid threats from Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun aimed at disrupting the ongoing DGP-IGP conference, an unclaimed handbag caused a security scare at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Security personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) promptly inspected the bag with the help of a dog squad, ultimately determining that it contained no suspicious items. “The bag will be handed over to the passenger once their identity is established,” a police officer stated.
Earlier in the day, several journalists in Odisha received a threatening email from Pannun, which declared December 1 as “D-Day” and warned the public to avoid air travel. The email was received at 9:04 AM, followed by its Odia translation at 10:46 AM. A Crime Branch team has since visited the office of one journalist to trace the email’s source.
Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police Pinak Mishra assured the public that comprehensive security measures are in place for the three-day DGP-IGP conference. “The event venue has been secured with a three-layered security system, and a special operation unit has been deployed to prevent any subversive activities,” he explained, adding that all intelligence inputs are being thoroughly verified, including the presence of a special tactical unit at the airport.
