Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 27: On Friday night, a Kolkata trader, Mithun Mandal, was allegedly robbed of 17 kg of silver and Rs 5 lakh in cash while traveling to his hometown on a private bus near Bhejiput Chhak on NH 16 in Khallikote, Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The incident occurred when the bus made a stop at Bhejiput for passengers to refresh and have snacks. Mandal stepped out briefly to get tea, leaving two bags containing the valuables and cash on his sleeper seat. Upon returning a few minutes later, he found the bags missing. According to Mandal, some passengers reported seeing two men taking the bags.

It is suspected that four unidentified car-borne miscreants exploited the stop to steal the bags. Police have initiated an investigation based on Mandal’s complaint, aiming to track down the culprits and recover the stolen items.
