Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 24: In response to a troubling incident where 30 students at Lock Pada Primary School in Paradip fell ill after consuming expired iron tablets, the Block Education Officer (BEO) has suspended two teachers for dereliction of duty.
Headmistress Manjulata Samal and assistant teacher Dipti Swain have been suspended, and show-cause notices have been issued to two other assistant teachers.
The Health Department has seized over a hundred strips of expired medicine from the school. These iron tablets, manufactured by Madhya Pradesh-based Ciano Pharma Private Limited, were produced in December 2019 and expired in December 2021. The tablets were reportedly administered to students in 2024, three years past their expiration date.
Following the consumption of these expired tablets, several students experienced stomach aches, nausea, and vomiting. The affected students were immediately taken to Biju Memorial Hospital in Atharabanki, Paradip for treatment.
