Two workers killed, five injured as metal plate collapses at Orissa Metaliks

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 17: A tragic accident at Orissa Metaliks Private Limited (OMPL) factory in Budhipadar, Jharsuguda district, resulted in the deaths of two workers and critical injuries to five others. The incident occurred around 11:00 am when a large metal plate fell onto the workers who were operating near the blast furnace.

The deceased have been identified as Purnchandra Jena, 34, from Ganjam, and Alek Deo Sahu, 39, from Jharkhand.

The injured workers were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition and are being treated in the ICU. The deceased were initially trapped under the metal plate but were later rescued; unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

Following the accident, police arrived at the scene to manage the situation and address the concerns of the agitated workers who had halted work in protest of the safety standards at the factory.
