VIMSAR: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 28: Days after a newborn boy was stolen from Burla’s Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Odisha police rescued the infant from a house in Ganesh Nagar near Rengali on Thursday. The baby has been safely returned to VIMSAR, and a couple from whose residence the child was recovered has been taken into custody, according to sources.

Additional SP Haresh Pandey stated that the rescue operation was carried out following a tip-off. “Two individuals, including the woman suspected of abducting the newborn, have been detained for questioning,” he said, adding that the motive behind the kidnapping is still under investigation.

The incident prompted swift action by Sambalpur police, who formed four special teams and announced a ₹5,000 reward for information on the child lifter.

The infant’s mother, Geeta Das, had delivered the baby on November 25 but discovered him missing on Tuesday. Hospital authorities alerted the police after an initial search. The newborn, currently doing well, is under observation in the SNCU for 72 hours as a precaution.
