weather news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 16: Odisha is experiencing a sharp dip in temperatures, with the night temperature falling below 10°C in several regions over the past 24 hours. G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district recorded the coldest at 9°C, followed by Daringbadi and Phulbani at 12.5°C each.
Other areas such as Rourkela saw temperatures of 12.7°C, while Angul and Jharsuguda recorded 13°C each, which are 4.8 and 4.1 degrees below normal, respectively. Kirei in Sundargarh saw a low of 14.2°C.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack also experienced temperatures below normal, at 17.4°C (-2°C) and 17°C (-1.7°C), respectively.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a further dip in the night temperatures by 2-3°C in many parts of the state over the next 4 to 5 days. This drop is attributed to the flow of dry, cold northerly winds and clear skies. A shift in the wind pattern is expected to lead to further temperature decreases from Friday.
However, temperatures are expected to rise again due to a likely formation of a cyclonic circulation over the southern Bay of Bengal between November 24 and 28, which could bring moisture and intensified easterly winds.
