Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 14: A tragic incident occurred near Salipur in Cuttack today, where a woman and her young son jumped into the Chitrotpala River from Nemala Bridge. The child, estimated to be between 5 and 6 years old, was retrieved by locals but the mother’s body remains missing.
The family, residing in the Nemala area, has been grappling with the loss as the fire department continues efforts to locate the mother’s body. The reasons behind the mother and son’s drastic action are not yet clear. However, relatives have suggested that financial stress related to a group loan might have contributed to the woman’s actions.
The daughter of the deceased revealed that earlier in the day, she and her younger brother had accompanied their mother to the market for a blood test. On their way back, their mother allegedly pushed the brother into the river before jumping in herself.
Locals promptly rescued the boy and rushed him to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead. The Salipur police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
