Worker dies in gas pipeline mishap along Cuttack-Paradip road

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Dec 6: A tragic accident occurred at a gas pipeline worksite of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) along the Cuttack-Paradip road near Kujang in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Friday, resulting in the death of a young

worker. The victim has been identified as Parimal Gayan, a 22-year-old resident of Bijaychandpur village under the Kujang block.

Sources indicate that the incident took place while Parimal and six other workers were conducting repair work on the gas pipeline. During the operation, a gas leak was reported, causing panic among the workers. In the ensuing chaos, Parimal slipped into a pit and was buried under the soil.

Fire Services personnel were promptly alerted and arrived at the scene, working tirelessly for nearly two hours to retrieve Parimal’s body from the sump. The incident ignited tension in the area, leading to disruptions in traffic on the busy Cuttack-Paradip road and causing significant inconvenience for commuters. Locals expressed serious concerns regarding the safety measures in place at the worksite. As of now, BPCL has not released any official statement regarding the accident.
