Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 20: A 22-year-old man, who was involved in a road accident while allegedly fleeing after killing his cousin, died from his injuries at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur on Tuesday.

Ashutosh Panigrahy, a pharmacy student, is reported to have fatally stabbed his 13-year-old cousin, Prajakta Panigrahy, on Raksha Bandhan during a death anniversary ceremony at Jagannath Vihar in the Bada Bazaar police jurisdiction. Prajakta’s 14-year-old brother, Ayushman, was also injured in the attack and is receiving treatment at MKCG MCH.

The incident occurred on the first floor of the house while the shraddh ceremony was taking place on the ground floor. Family members rushed upstairs upon hearing cries and discovered the two children bleeding, sources said.
Ashutosh later sustained severe injuries while attempting to flee at Pochilima, near Hinjili. Reports indicate that he might have tried to end his life by jumping in front of a bus.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. “We have not yet had the opportunity to interrogate the family members as they are occupied with attending to the injured,” said Baba Shankar Saraf, IIC of Bada Bazaar police station.
