Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 11: A tragic incident occurred in the Kashipur area of Rayagada district, Odisha, where a youth was killed and a girl critically injured following an attack by the girl’s father over their relationship. The accused, Bijay Majhi, allegedly launched the attack on Tuesday night.
According to sources, the couple had eloped two days prior. The girl’s father had asked them to return home under the guise of arranging their marriage. However, upon their return, he attacked them with an axe, killing the youth instantly. He then fled the scene, leaving the severely injured girl behind, mistakenly believing she was dead.
Upon receiving information, the police arrived and rescued the girl, who was initially taken to Kashipur Community Health Centre. Due to her deteriorating condition, she was subsequently transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Rayagada. There are indications that she may need to be moved to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur due to her critical state.
The police have apprehended the accused but have not yet released further details about the case.
