Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen),Aug 10: A youth trapped under a drainage pipe in Pallahara, Angul district, Odisha, was successfully rescued after over three hours of intense efforts by fire services, police, and Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) personnel.

According to police, the 22-year-old, identified as Jhulu Sethy from Purunapani in Deogarh district, accidentally slipped into a roadside drain and became trapped about 100 feet under a pipe. Sethy was in Pallahara with his family for medical treatment at a local hospital when the incident occurred near a flyover on Friday. The trapped position was caused by the flow of water in the drain.

Local residents who witnessed the accident promptly alerted the police and fire services, initiating a rescue operation. ODRAF personnel also joined the efforts.

After three hours of rigorous work, rescuers successfully extracted Sethy from beneath the pipe. He was then transported to a hospital for medical evaluation and was reported to be in stable condition.

The Odisha Police commended the ODRAF for their exemplary efforts. “Odisha Police praises the dedicated ODRAF personnel of the 4th IR Bn., Deogarh, for their commendable service in rescuing a 22-year-old trapped under a pipe in the Pallahara PS Area. The rescued individual has been safely sent to the local medical center,” the police said in a post on their X handle.
