Bus strike in Baripada amidst fallout from violent clash

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 22: Private bus services in Baripada, Odisha, ground to a halt as the Mayurbhanj Bus Owners’ Association initiated a strike in response to a violent clash between two groups. The incident, which occurred at Baripada bus stand on Friday night, left five individuals critically injured, including a bus owner.

Sources report that the clash erupted over disputes regarding route permits and operational timings of a private bus, leading to a violent confrontation involving sharp weapons and sticks.

Five people sustained critical injuries in the altercation, prompting the transfer of three injured individuals to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to worsening conditions.

In protest, the association has threatened to prolong the strike until the arrest of those responsible for assaulting the bus owner and his associates. The strike has significantly inconvenienced travelers, particularly those planning journeys for Snana Purnima.

Baripada Town police have detained ten individuals from both groups involved in the violent clash, according to police sources.
