Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 31: The bail application of Chilika MLA and BJP candidate Prasanta Kumar Jagadev, pertaining to an EVM vandalism case, was rejected by the Additional District and Sessions Court in Khurda.

Earlier in the day, the court heard the bail petition and reserved judgment.

Senior lawyer Pitambar Acharya, advocating for the MLA, asserted his client’s innocence, stating that Jagadev, a sitting MLA, was arrested without an FIR and lacked evidence against him at the time of arrest. Acharya further highlighted alleged mistreatment of Jagadev at the police station, claiming a violation of Supreme Court orders and CrPC provisions.

Acharya, supported by 40 other advocates, submitted their vakalatnama to represent Jagadev in court.
Jagadev stands accused of vandalizing an EVM at a polling station in Khurda. Notably, he is contesting from the Khurda assembly segment this election, having been fielded by the BJP, and the incident occurred on June 25 at booth 114 in Bolagad block’s Kaunripatna in the Begunia assembly segment, where he is registered as a voter.
