Cyclonic system spurs rainfall forecast for Odisha, IMD issues alerts

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 27: Due to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, several districts in Odisha, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam, are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next four days, as forecasted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

IMD has also issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Bargarh districts.

The cyclonic storm, situated in the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, is anticipated to cause significant rainfall across the state according to IMD predictions. Several districts witnessed rainfall on Wednesday due to the formation of cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.

According to IMD reports, Nayagarh recorded 110 mm of rainfall, followed by Parlakhemundi (70 mm), Nabarangpur (23 mm), Bhubaneswar (21.3 mm), Malkangiri (17 mm), Titlagarh (15 mm), Phulbani (14 mm), and Daringbadi (13 mm).

Malkangiri and Koraput districts may experience even heavier rainfall ranging from 115 mm to 200 mm on Thursday.
