Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 8: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has lifted the suspension of senior Odisha IPS officer D S Kutey and recommended disciplinary action against another officer, Ashish Kumar Singh, for providing false information regarding his health condition.

Kutey, previously serving as the special secretary to the Odisha Chief Minister, was suspended by the ECI on May 28 for allegedly interfering excessively in the election process. Meanwhile, Singh, who held the position of IG (CM Security), had been on medical leave since May 4, prompting the ECI to order a medical examination by a special board at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

In a letter addressed to Odisha’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) dated June 6, the ECI stated that the report from AIIMS Bhubaneswar declared Singh fit both physically and mentally. The Commission noted that Singh had misrepresented his health condition, directing the Chief Secretary to take appropriate action based on the medical board’s findings.

Regarding Kutey, the Commission instructed for the immediate lifting of his suspension, with the condition that other directives issued in its previous letter dated May 28 remain in effect according to applicable regulations. The Commission also stipulated that any departmental proceedings initiated against Kutey must have the Commission’s concurrence. Furthermore, Kutey was directed to report to the Chief Secretary for further assignment as deemed appropriate.
