Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 27: A fake doctor employed as a medical officer at Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) in Odisha’s steel city has been apprehended by the police. The accused, identified as Padmanavan Mukhi Karwa from Jharkhand, had been working at the hospital’s dialysis center for approximately seven months, hospital sources disclosed on Thursday.

Operating under the guise of a dialysis specialist, he had presented forged credentials to secure his position and had been administering treatments to patients at the center. However, his fraudulent activities came to light when a finance company, while processing his loan application of around Rs 16 lakh, scrutinized and verified the submitted documents, revealing discrepancies.

Following this discovery, the finance company lodged a complaint, prompting Raghunathpalli Police to arrest the individual on Wednesday and launch a thorough investigation.

Notably, Padmanabhan had previously been arrested in November 2019 on similar charges while employed at a primary health center (PHC) in Nuagaon, also in Sundargarh district.

Sources indicated that the accused, originally a pharmacist, had obtained a fake certificate under the name of Rajesh Kumar Jha and secured his position at RGH through an outsourcing firm. During police interrogation, Padmanabhan admitted to his actions.
