Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha until 8:30 am on July 3. Bhubaneswar is expected to see a partly cloudy sky with moderate rain or thundershowers.

Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in various parts of the state until July 4, with a likelihood of more widespread rainfall from July 5 onwards. IMD has issued a warning for heavy rain at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada districts on July 6.

Over the next two days, many areas across Odisha may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers.

Meanwhile, Odisha’s rainfall deficit has increased to 26% from the previous day’s 24%. The state has received 168.7mm of rainfall from June 1 to July 2, compared to the normal expected value of 227.0mm.
According to the rainfall and temperature outlook for July, Odisha is likely to witness abundant rainfall this month. The IMD predicts a 35% to 45% probability of above-normal rainfall, which is expected to benefit agricultural activities and aid farmers in crop sowing.

The meteorological office attributes the rain deficit in June to the slow progress of the monsoon, the formation of only one low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal (compared to an average of three), and the weak Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO).
