IMD warns of thunderstorms as monsoon progresses in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Thursday that the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into Odisha and is expected to cover more parts of the state over the next 3-4 days.

According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph may affect Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Khurda, Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, and Puri districts on June 20.

Similar weather conditions are anticipated in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Rayagada over the subsequent 24 hours.

On June 22, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface windspeeds of 30-40 kmph are likely in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts.

Additionally, hot and humid weather conditions are expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati on June 20, and in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, and Nayagarh on June 21.
