Judge Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi appointed Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court
Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen) July 3: On Wednesday, Judge Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi of the Orissa High Court was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court by President Droupadi Murmu, in consultation with Chief Justice of India Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud. Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced this appointment via a post on social media.
Simultaneously, Justice Chandrashekhar of the Jharkhand High Court has been transferred to the Rajasthan High Court.
Justice Sarangi was appointed as a permanent judge of the Orissa High Court on June 20, 2013, after being elevated to the Bench. He previously served as Acting Chief Justice following the superannuation of Justice Subhasis Talapatra, the then Chief Justice, on October 3, 2023.
Born in Nayagarh, Justice Sarangi completed his LLB and LLM from M S Law College, Cuttack, and obtained a PhD in Law from Sambalpur University. He began his legal career in December 1985 and practiced regularly in the Orissa High Court, Cuttack, and the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi. His legal expertise spanned various domains including civil, criminal, constitutional, revenue, tax, labour, service, mining, education, electricity, insurance, banking, telephone, and elections.
Justice Sarangi was honored with the ‘Haricharan Mukherjee Memorial Award’ for 2002, recognizing his outstanding performance and high standards of professional ethics as a lawyer.
