Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 7: A local court here granted interim bail to Khurda MLA-elect Prashant Jagdev on Friday regarding the EVM toppling case. He has been granted bail for three days, from June 9 to June 11, and instructed to surrender before the court on June 12.

Jagdev’s lawyer informed the media that they had initially sought bail for a month, citing reasons such as the oath-taking ceremony on June 10, medical grounds, and the death of his nephew. However, the court granted bail for only three days. They plan to petition the Orissa High Court for an extension of his bail and later seek regular bail.

Jagdev was arrested on May 26 for allegedly toppling an EVM and assaulting two polling personnel at booth no. 114 of Kaunripatana under the Bolagarh block in the Bengunia Assembly constituency during the third-round elections on May 25.

In addition to sections 131, 132, 135, and 136 of the Representation of People’s Act, he has also been charged under sections 294, 506, and 354 of the IPC. He is currently incarcerated in Khurda jail.
