Low-pressure system expected to bring rainfall to Odisha
Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 18: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Saturday that a low-pressure system is expected to develop over the southwest Bay of Bengal (BoB) around May 22, 2024.
According to the latest IMD forecast, this low-pressure area is anticipated to initially move northeastwards and later intensify into a depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal by May 24.
In a statement shared on its official platform, the regional center of IMD stated, “A low-pressure area is likely to form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22. It is expected to move northeastwards initially and concentrate into a depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal around May 24, 2024.”
As a result of this weather phenomenon, Odisha is expected to experience rainfall and thunderstorms.
Despite pockets of the state currently experiencing scorching heatwave conditions, the formation of the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal offers hope for relief. It is anticipated that the intensification of this low-pressure system over the coming days will lead to rainfall across various parts of Odisha, providing respite from the prevailing heat, as per sources.
