Monsoon progresses in Odisha, heavy rainfall predicted

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Friday that the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into parts of Odisha, including the state capital Bhubaneswar. The IMD forecasts favorable conditions for the monsoon’s continued progress into more regions of Odisha over the next 3-4 days, except for some areas in the western districts that remain uncovered.

According to IMD’s predictions, Odisha is anticipated to witness isolated heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) on June 21 and 22. Additionally, the state is likely to experience fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph over the next 5 days.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty windspeeds of 30-40 kmph expected at one or two places in multiple districts including Kalahandi, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely at one or two places in Rayagada and Kandhamal, with heavy rainfall expected in Gajapati, Khurda, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, and Ganjam.
June 22:

Continued thunderstorms with lightning and gusty windspeeds of 30-40 kmph anticipated in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda.

Heavy rainfall expected at one or two places in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.
