Odisha braces for heatwave and thunderstorms, IMD issues alert

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen)) June 5: Amidst the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions and thunderstorm activity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Wednesday, indicating the return of a heatwave to Odisha for three days starting from June 7.

Additionally, the IMD forecasts a rise in daytime temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius after two days.
The weather agency also noted favorable conditions for the further advancement of the southwest monsoon over some parts of South Odisha in the next 3-4 days. Typically, the monsoon arrives in the state around June 12.

Hot and humid weather conditions are expected at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati until May 9.

Additionally, the IMD has issued a yellow warning of thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph for one or two places in various districts on June 5 and June 6. Thunderstorms with lightning may continue in certain districts during the subsequent 24 hours.
