Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), June 13: Odisha is set to receive relief from the ongoing heatwave and hot, humid conditions as the southwest monsoon is expected to advance further into parts of the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), favorable conditions are anticipated for the southwest monsoon to progress into additional regions of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the northwest Bay of Bengal over the next 3-4 days.

The monsoon had already arrived in Odisha on June 8, ahead of schedule, covering parts of Malkangiri district initially. However, its progress has been sluggish since then.

While dry north-westerly winds may cause a heatwave for the next two days in some areas of the state, hot and humid weather with thunderstorm activity is expected to persist through the end of the week. The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall in specific districts on June 13 (Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur), June 14 (Koraput, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nabarangpur), and June 17 (Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh).

From June 13-14, heatwave conditions may prevail at isolated places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Boudh, Sonepur, and Bargarh. Hot and humid weather is expected in select areas such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati until June 17.
